New federal snake-import rules take effect

New rules from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service that took effect Friday ban the importation of four species of non-native snakes. The regulations, created in response to the large number of Burmese pythons found in the wild in Florida, ban the importation but not the ownership of that species, as well as the yellow anaconda and northern and southern African pythons.
