Teacher is disheartened by the common core

Jeremiah Chaffee, a high-school English teacher in upstate New York, writes in this blog post about his experience at a recent workshop on the common core. During the workshop, veteran teachers used a model lesson on "The Gettysburg Address" to design their own lessons. Chaffee lists ways in which he said the common core does not reflect quality teaching and writes it is misguided in its reliance on "cold reading."
