Teacher support may curb early alcohol, drug use in youths

Greater emotional support from teachers reduced the risk of early alcohol and illegal drug use among middle-school students, according to a study of 521 youths in Seattle published in the journal Psychology of Addictive Behaviors. Researchers also found that youths who were close to their parents or had separation anxiety from them were less likely to succumb to negative peer influences.
