Game developers flock to mobile, leaving big publishers behind

Games for mobile devices are the hot spot for developers, leaving Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts and other leading publishers of video games for consoles and PCs in a quandary, Cliff Edwards writes in this analysis. "It's anarchy out there, and these big companies are finding it difficult to steer their supertankers," says Ben Cousins of Scattered Entertainment, which is developing free-to-play titles for the iPad. More than half of North American game developers heading to a San Francisco conference this week say their next projects will be for smartphones and tablet computers.
