Study looks at markers for macroalbuminuria in diabetes

Type 1 diabetes patients who developed macroalbuminuria showed higher levels of sE-selectin, interleukin-6, plasminogen activator inhibitor 1, and sTNFR-1 and -2 over 6.5 years than those with normal urine, according to a study in Diabetes Care. Researchers also noted significant reductions in soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 rates in patients who developed macroalbuminuria.
