Mich. 7th-graders find their voices after working with poets

Seventh-graders at Springfield Middle School in Michigan wrote poems and soon will hold a spoken-word performance after participating in classroom workshops with professional poets. Students worked with Kinetic Affect, a team of two professional poets, to learn about the process. "Middle schoolers need to feel like their voices can be heard. This gave them the power and control to be heard and to build empathy with other students," English teacher Katherine Roberts said.
