Mortality rates high after acute kidney injury, study says

Mortality rates for ICU patients with acute kidney injury were 62% after a median of 42.4 months and survivors remained at higher risk of death and proteinuria well after hospital discharge, Australian researchers reported in PLOS Medicine. The study found only about 5% of survivors required maintenance dialysis.
