New York City School Leaders Say Budget Cuts Could Be "Devastating"

New York City superintendents yesterday testified that proposed budget cuts would force schools to cut essential academic programs and staff. Schools Chancellor Harold O. Levy agreed, saying, "The budget is going to have a devastating effect on public schools." Under pressure to cut costs, Levy has asked administrators to cut budgets by a total of $305 million.
