Study measures readiness for kindergarten

About 52% of Maryland children were "fully prepared" for kindergarten, and about 41% were "approaching readiness," according to a survey by the State Department of Education. Students from private schools were best prepared for kindergarten; children from minority and low-income families tended to be well behind other students at 4 and 5 years of age, the study found.
