Michigan science teacher assaulted in classroom

Three students allegedly beat a Pontiac, Mich., high-school science teacher in his classroom, fracturing his skull, breaking a rib and injuring a lung. "Teachers are in a war zone, and we should be getting combat pay," said local teachers' union president Irma Collins. "Teachers are scared going into their jobs every day. ... We need better leadership to deal with our safety issues from the interim superintendent or from the board."
