Fla. bill would make employers use database to verify applicant status

Legislation proposed in Florida would require businesses with state contracts to verify the immigration status of job applicants by using an electronic database. Critics of the proposal say the database, known as E-Verify, has a high failure rate. Many employers currently use paper forms to verify the status of job applicants, but that process can take up to several weeks.
