Lawmaker pushes for HIE network in Hawaii

Hawaii state Rep. Jon Riki Karamatsu has proposed legislation that would lead to a statewide health information exchange to manage local and regional programs. The bill aims to create an Office of the State Coordinator of HIE in the Department of Health, and it would be tasked with developing a strategic plan to be carried out over a decade. The measure does not specify a platform or approach, but requires the network to provide e-prescription data, laboratory results and other basic functions.
