TSA says 80,000 on "cleared" flight list

The Transportation Security Administration has added about 80,000 names to its list of "cleared" travelers, helping to ease airport hassles for passengers with names similar to those of suspected terrorists. The cleared list is designed to tell TSA screeners and airline personnel that "this individual with this government-issued ID is not the individual we're looking for," says a TSA spokesman. Pending legislation in Congress would require TSA to combine and share its cleared list with other agencies, including Customs and Border Protection.
