Chemical companies are leading the way to global sustainability

Dow Chemical and BASF are leading the Global Product Strategy, a longtime chemical-industry goal to promote product-stewardship programs, or strategies that entail a manufacturer's consideration of a product's life cycle. Dow introduced a program in 2006 to increase the sales of sustainable chemicals and publish safety assessments for its products. Dow is glad chemical associations "are looking to Dow's commitment to product safety and emulating our best practices," said Greg Bond, corporate director of product responsibility.
