Ill. lawmaker willing to work with companies on BPA

Illinois state Sen. Dan Kotowski, who sponsored a bill to ban bisphenol A from children's reusable food or beverage containers, said that he is open to giving companies a five-year deadline to look for BPA-free options. If no BPA-free substitutes are found, companies could apply for a waiver, Kotowski added. A BPA ban would hurt the canned-food producers in the state, said Mark Biel, executive director of the Chemical Industry Council of Illinois.
