Underage drinking is deemed a "national crisis"

Data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health indicates 27.6% of youngsters between ages 12 and 20 drank alcohol in the past month, and some states have underage last-month drinking rates as high as 40%. "Underage drinking is a national crisis putting the lives of millions of Americans at risk," said an official with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, which is launching new public service announcements.
