The age of the building and unusual placement of a structural beam at a warehouse in New York City are to blame for its collapse during demolition last week, according to contractor Breeze National. An investigation "has led all of the parties involved to believe that this accident was the result of an unknown, unusual, latent condition in one of the structural beams," the company said. A preliminary investigation found that cutting the beam caused the collapse. The investigation is continuing.
