Tire recycling program creates crumb rubber for RAC

Residents of Solano County, Calif., have been recycling old tires and since September have diverted 4,600 tires from landfills. The tires are processed into crumb rubber, which, when combined with concrete and an asphalt binder, becomes rubberized asphalt concrete. The RAC is then used for road rehab projects as well as for landscaping, playgrounds and outdoor furniture.
