UK plan for regional teacher pay draws ire

The Association of Teachers and Lecturers is considering a strike over plans in the United Kingdom to move to a regional pay plan for public-sector workers. Under the plan, the role of the School Teachers' Review Body, which oversees teachers' pay and working conditions, would be diminished. The teaching union has said banding could be a good compromise, but if the decisions are made on a school-by-school basis, educators are likely to strike.
