GLAAD changes name to signal work on transgender issues

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation will be known only by its acronym going forward, a move intended to highlight the organization's work on transgender and bisexual issues as well as gay and lesbian rights. "This is a reflection of the work we're doing today, and a reflection of the work the gay and lesbian community needs to be doing. Our name was hindering that in many instances," said Rich Ferraro, a GLAAD spokesman.
