Calif. shows growth in physician population, but needs persist in some areas

A report released by the California HealthCare Foundation showed physician population in the state increased from 66,151 in 1993 to 105,770 in 2013, representing 59.9% growth, more than twice the growth rate of the total population. However, 32% of state physicians are older than 60, compared with a national average of 28%, and in some areas the ratio of physicians to population fell below recommendations. The state has the second-oldest doctor workforce in the U.S.
