Study: Long-segment BE raises risk of esophageal cancer

Researchers from Northern Ireland reported long-segment Barrett's esophagus raised the risk of esophageal cancer or esophageal high-grade dysplasia by sevenfold, compared with short-segment BE. The study in the American Journal of Gastroenterology found patients who did not have reflux symptoms did not have a decreased risk of malignant progression.
