WIC proposals stir controversy among food lobbies

The Department of Agriculture is reviewing changes that would add more fruits and vegetables to a federal program, called Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, that provides food for poor women and children. Some food industry groups oppose the new regulations, arguing that adding fruits and vegetables shouldn't come at the expense of other food groups, including dairy.
