Congress urged to renew longer patents for testing drugs on children

Medical and industry experts urged Congress at a hearing to continue the federal program of offering drugmakers longer patent terms if they test their products for use on children. The incentive that grants a six-month patent extension is set to expire in September, but physicians said the added trials are valuable in determining which adult drugs are best for treating children.
