Study: PET imaging can provide early diagnosis of dementia

FDG-PET can spot various types of dementia early, according to results of a 548-patient study appearing in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine. Using "optimized analysis" of FDG-PET scans "allows one to accurately detect and classify different types of dementia, including AD, frontotemporal dementia and Lewy body dementia at the very mild stages of disease," said the lead researcher from the New York University School of Medicine.
