USDA mulls nondisclosure rule in meat recalls

The USDA is considering a proposal that would not identify retailers of recalled meat unless serious health concerns are reported. The USDA currently reveals data on the recall itself and not the names of retailers of tainted meat or vegetables. Consumer groups and Democratic lawmakers reiterated the public's right to know, while some industry officials said that releasing the information could spur competition.
