Marriage gains ally in former McCain campaign adviser

A top adviser to the presidential bid of U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., has announced his support for marriage equality and is calling on the GOP to embrace more LGBT-friendly policies. Steve Schmidt, whose sister is a lesbian, also said he voted against the Proposition 8 constitutional marriage ban, which was backed by McCain.
