Optimistic investors boost Asian markets

Investors appeared to be betting that the global economy will not worsen as they bought riskier assets and lifted Asian markets today. Data from the U.S. and Japan, however, indicated more problems are possible, according to this article. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 advanced 1%, the MSCI index was up 0.5% and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 was 0.8% higher.
