Indoor mapping will enhance shopping and gaming, experts say

Retail promotion, gaming and emergency response will be the top three uses of indoor navigation tools, said panelists at a recent GPS-Wireless conference in Burlingame, Calif. The panelists predicted that retailers could use Bluetooth beacons to guide shoppers by interest. Indoor navigation technology also can help in emergencies, since a user's location can be pinpointed within 10 centimeters. Glympse CEO Bryan Trussel said technology to help people share their location with others is "going to be pretty commonplace" within two years.
