AVMA: Health care tax could hurt veterinarians and pet owners

Veterinarian John Beltz and others are already feeling the effects of a tax on medical devices, including those used on humans and animals, that is part of the Affordable Care Act. Dr. Beltz's practice recently purchased a drug dispensing device that cost an additional $4,000, an increase the manufacturer said was fueled by the tax. The AVMA has warned that the tax could affect prices for veterinary care and veterinarians' decisions about new equipment purchases.
