Software-maker sees employee motivation through commission

Software-maker Fishbowl has found that employees are more motivated to ensure the company's success when they are paid on a base-plus-commission basis. That way, payroll grows, or shrinks, as revenue does, and employees stay focused on the bottom line, instead of department agendas. "[O]ur employees' incomes increased by an average of 19% in 2012," CEO David Williams and President Mary Michelle Scott write. "We considered it a profound achievement for us as a company, and for them."
