Microsoft encouraged applications developers at the Game Developers Conference to write for the Windows Phone platform by pointing out the capabilities of three game engines. Unity's open-source beta has already produced Echoboom's Orcs Must Survive and other games. Marmalade's software development kit led to Spiel Studios' Propel Man. And Havok talked up the Windows 8 platform as providing "the access Havok needs to really optimize down to the metal and to allow developers to create rich content and enhanced gameplay experience," according to Havok's Andrew Bowell.
