Alaska to host huge floating wind turbine

Altaeros Energies is preparing to launch a huge, helium-filled wind turbine that will float at a height of 300 meters, nearly 1,000 feet, to capture the stronger winds at that altitude. The turbine is expected to produce energy at a cost of $0.18 per kilowatt-hour, about half the going rate for off-grid energy in Alaska.
