Unregulated market for e-cigarettes puts children at risk

The American Academy of Pediatrics has warned federal officials for years about the health risks posed by exposure to electronic cigarettes and their liquid-nicotine refills, but progress has yet to be made, AAP President James M. Perrin said in response to a New York Times article about the dangers of liquid nicotine. The powerful effect of the nicotine, lack of oversight from FDA officials and the growing market for e-cigarettes "combine to create a toxic environment that puts children at risk of serious injury and death," Perrin wrote.
