Loyalty cards not the best way to earn loyalty

Loyalty cards offering discounts have mixed results in ensuring customer loyalty, said analysts, who believe that tracking customer preferences and purchases in order to improve merchandising and store design may be a better use of the information. "You're seeing an enormous amount of creativity in the industry now trying to capture the customer's loyalty, which is quite a challenge in today's marketplace," said one grocery industry group spokesman.
