EBay to heat up Amazon rivalry with $2.4 billion GSI acquisition

EBay plans to acquire e-commerce service company GSI Commerce in a deal valued at $2.4 billion, a move that marks the online auction site's aggressive push into Amazon's territory. GSI and Amazon both offer retailers the order-management, fulfillment and shipping services they need for their online retail stores. Philadelphia-based GSI's client list boasts more than 180 high-profile retailers and brands including Aeropostale, Timberland and Zales.
