A 2006 study published in the journal Lancet raised concerns that artificial colors may influence the behavior of children. However, upon review by the European Food Safety Authority and the U.K. Committee on Toxicology, both groups concluded that the study was not conclusive and that changes to the regulation of these colors was not appropriate. This week the Food and Drug Administration will take up the issue in a public hearing which will be attended by NCA. Candy makers will pay close attention to FDA's conclusions and recommendations.
