Beef Products' production halt might lead to higher prices

The beef industry predicted higher prices after Beef Products stopped production at three facilities that make lean finely textured beef, also known as "pink slime." Retailers and foodservice outlets have stopped selling the product, even though there is "absolutely no evidence that this product is unsafe, and it is low-fat," said Kevin Concannon, USDA undersecretary for food, nutrition and consumer services.
