Interior Dept. seeks input on Atlantic seismic studies

The Department of the Interior is seeking input on a proposal to permit oil and natural gas companies to conduct seismic studies in the Atlantic Ocean. The data would be used by drillers to determine whether to apply for energy leases, although the region is closed to leasing. "Without an Atlantic coast lease sale in their five-year plan, the administration's wishful thinking on seismic research has no ultimate purpose," said Erik Milito, upstream director at the American Petroleum Institute.
