A Kansas school district plans to offer one free, hot lunch each weekday over the summer break to children under 18. Officials say registration is not required, and the program will be funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Nancy Coughenour, the district's food services manager, said changing demographics have made it necessary to provide the free meals, which will go to any child, not just district students.
