Report: Climate change increases risks of severe-weather disasters

Governments around the world should brace for unprecedented natural catastrophes as climate change is blamed for increasingly severe storms and other weather-related disasters, according to a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. "We mostly experience weather and climate through the extreme," said Chris Field, an ecologist with the Carnegie Institution of Washington. "[D]eveloped countries also suffer severe disasters because of social vulnerability and inadequate disaster protection," the report added.
