IFA forecasts continued growth in franchise industry

The IFA released a first-quarter update to its economic outlook on Wednesday, reporting that it expects almost 11,000 new franchise units to open in the U.S. this year and a 1.3% increase in the number of franchise businesses. The IFA also forecasts that franchises will employ 8.3 million people in the U.S. by the end of this year and post $802 billion in revenue. The report shows strong growth, but the numbers could be better, IFA President and CEO Steve Caldeira said, citing that business owners are uncertain about the impact of possible tax increases and rising health care costs.
