Nurse-led screening tool shows promise for spotting delirium

Nurse-administered delirium screenings yielded high sensitivity and specificity in evaluating 54 hospitalized geriatric patients, according to a study reported at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Most nurses who responded to an e-mail said they were confident in using the Delirium Observation Screening Scale and could complete it in three minutes.
