Study: Health literacy affects diabetes patients' Rx adherence

Patients with both diabetes and depression who had the lowest level of health literacy were the least likely to continue taking antidepressants as prescribed, a study published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine found. Patients with limited understanding of basic health information might need intensive counseling, better education and additional follow-up, the lead researcher said.
