AAFP calls for changes in health plan grace period rule

The AAFP was among more than 80 medical groups and state medical associations that signed a letter requesting CMS to change its policy on health plan grace periods so that insurers assume more risk for medical payments of plan members who fall behind on premiums. The AAFP said current CMS rules do not protect physicians against unpaid claims during the last 60 days prior to coverage termination.
