Don't ignore office hierarchies

Traditional office hierarchies remain a part of corporate life, contrary to arguments that companies have become egalitarian, Stanford professor Jeffrey Pfeffer says. This means that developing positive relationships with managers is still key to getting ahead. "It's easy to get diverted ... by what everyone else says is the new world order. But don't believe you can play the game by different rules," Pfeffer says.
