Project to restore roof of Pa. elementary school to cost over $800K

The $820,000 estimated cost of restoring the roof at Caln Elementary School in Thorndale, Pa., is higher than it could have been because school officials delayed the project for several years. The roof was last replaced in parts between 1987 and 1989, but the district put off restoration while it considered selling the building, said Bill Androwick, maintenance manager at the Coatesville Area School District. The work would entail replacing the flat roof, dismantling the existing roof to replace moist decking and insulation, then adding slope to the structure to meet building codes, Androwick added.
