Holiday Inn returns to roots with smaller, '50s-style properties

Betting that travelers will agree with the architectural adage that less is more, Holiday Inn is downsizing its American properties and redesigning hotels with a style that recollects the 1950s, when Holiday Inns first appeared. Prototypes for the new style include properties with fewer rooms on smaller plots of land, but will preserve such features as indoor swimming pools and family-style restaurants.
