Minn. lawmakers propose gift cards as wellness incentives

Minnesota Democrats are proposing that publicly insured patients in that state receive $20 gift cards to stores such as Target as an incentive to follow their doctor's orders. State senators said the reward for putting $1 million toward incentives for diabetics to control their blood sugar or for smokers to quit, for example, would be lower health care costs.
