Opinion: Open skies, Virgin America are good news for consumers

Travelers will benefit from the new open skies agreement with Europe and from the DOT's tentative approval of start-up Virgin America, the San Francisco Chronicle editorial board writes. If Virgin America receives final approval to operate, the deal would bring 3,000 jobs to the San Francisco area and open up competition for coast-to-coast routes. The open skies deal will mean easier access to European destinations for American carriers.
